A house of her own

A house of her own by Jenny Hughes

I adored this book! Little Audrey is making her first tentative steps towards independence and rather than show how heart-wrenching this experience must be for him, her father helps with every request. Oh, Audrey’s new house is amazing! Her dad built it at the top of a tree at the bottom of the garden. It has a bathtub for snorkelling, a place to drink tea and somewhere to hide the dirty cups. Audrey thought the house was perfect but then her Dad went home… and she misses him! Isn’t it marvellous how a picture book can make your heart ache for the characters?  If you are looking for reassuring books about a child’s journey to independence, you might like another favourite of mine Parachute by Danny Parker and Matt Ottley.
